The Light and Dark of Candlemas

The Light and Dark of Candlemas

Bless you in the light of Candlemas.

Bless you in the lighting of the candles.

Bless you in the candlelit procession, illumination striking every corner.

Bless you in the diminishing light, the shrinking beeswax.

Bless you in the darkness.

From a reworking of the Charge of the Star Goddess by Jonathan D. White 3* priest of Stone Circle Wicca:

Seek Me in the light that is in the darkness, and seek Me in the dark itself.  But know that your searching will not avail you unless you know the mystery—that if you do not find what you seek within yourself, you will never find it without. For behold, I have been with you from the beginning, and I am that which is attained at the end of desire.

We seek the Holy in the darkness itself—at Samhain and at Yule, we go inward into reflection, into the deep sleep of winter, into the wisdom that comes from solitude.

And at Candlemas we seek Her (Them/Him/It/the Holy) in the light shining in the darkness. We praise the Divine Who illuminates the corners that have been dark; the Divine who casts divinatory shadows for us to chase; the Divine who offers a touch of luminescence where before had been only dark.

And this process of going into the dark and awaking into candlelit solemnity, we realize the great Mystery.

The darknesses are our own.

The light is our own.

The heat and cold are our own.

And the Holy Ones who may come in the name of God, are we ourselves.

Blessings on you and on your house.
